The anchor logo
We aimed to create a proper, clean symbol with rich, layered symbolism and a definite character. The symbols for an anchor, the Cyrillic letter “Б” (Бургас) and the Latin letter “B” (Burgas) are intertwined. Also recognizable is a smile, a bridge, a key, and a bow. This palette of symbols presents the city in its diversity of virtues and meanings – Burgas as a regional center, like its history, as a process, method, direction, and an inspired outlook to what’s new.
The twisting ornaments suggest the idea of process and development, dance, and movement. They depict both the dynamics of the smart city and the warm embrace and friendliness of its inhabitants. The logo’s geometry favors its adaptation in different materials – wood, iron, concrete, etc., which makes it suitable for mass use in urban environments.
The logotype is built with a modern sans-serif font, which stands out for its elegance and conciseness. The colors are in the blue range. The symbol’s solid shape also allows for the use of gradient color combinations.
The compass logo
The mainframe of the logo references one of the city’s key symbols – the clock in front of the municipality. It is a widely recognizable structure in the center of Burgas, also known as a popular meeting place and an integral part of the urban environment A stylized compass is also a part of the symbol. It divides the round composition center into four separate zones. Each zone reflects a different aspect of the city’s character:
1. Sun – Summer adventures;
2. Nature – The Sea Carden and the exhibition „Flora”;
3. Sea – Water entertainments and shipping;
4. Stage – Summer theatre, culture, bridge.
The symbol’s silhouette also resembles a trident and a crown, which emphasizes the marine character and presents the city as a key location on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The colors are fresh, positive, and they reflect the tourist energy of the city. They also reinforce the symbolism in each element by showing the variety of cultural and maritime activities available in Burgas.
The dynamic logo
The logo was designed as a recognizable and easily understandable international symbol, which is accessible by different age groups. The resulting shape combines mainly:
1. The sea symbol „fish”
2. The Cyrillic letter „Б” (Бугас)
and 3. a stylized eye.
The message it conveys is that you must see this charming seaside city called Burgas. The logo is characteristic and easily recognizable even by a small child. The logo invokes a positive emotional reaction at first sight. This emotion is enhanced by the use of vivid colors, associated with pleasant sensations (a typical approach for most tourist logos). They also reveal other characteristic city symbols – blue for the sky and sea, green for gardens and freshness, the pink „tail” (or a simple heart-kiss) – for a city of friendships and love, and warm orange as a distance reference for cooking and a delicious meal. The symbol is modular, which gives it flexibility when further developing the brand and creating a set of complementary materials for different media.
A modern sans-serif font (Marvel) was selected for the logotype, and later on, modified for the purposes of the task It has been manually adapted in Cyrillic.
